The Great Detective Netaro! – Section 1

Track 2: Damage Incident + Detective + Me = Dissection!

“You are technically not guilty.”

The detective who detained me told me his name was Koutetsu Samejima.

Upon hearing Samejima’s words, his subordinate’s shoulders slumped in disappointment.

I slumped my shoulders too from where I sat at a desk in the middle of the interrogation room.

Samejima was the only one idly twirling his pen.

“Well, I didn’t expect to catch the culprit that easily either.”

After the interrogation, I was found mostly not guilty. No lights were shone onto my face, no pork cutlet bowls were served, and no tears were shed by my parents back home. Booooo!

After thinking for a moment, Samejima let out a deep “hmm” and turned his whole body to face me.

“You. Have you seen anyone who looks like they could be culprit?”

“Someone who looks like the culprit???”

“Yeah. Someone suspicious.”

There was indeed a shady guy. The guy who smelled like space cuisine.

But the suspicion was based solely on circumstantial evidence.

I don’t think there’s anyone among the humans who could create something close to our cuisine.

So I kept my mouth shut. I shouldn’t say something so baseless. Because then, I might be the suspicious one that ends up being arrested♪

“The android entered the area for cleaning at 9 PM. The android’s onboard error system detected the incident at 9:04 PM.”

“Hmm~”

“I apprehended you at 9:12 PM. So, the crime occurred approximately 10 minutes before I found you.”

“Yep.”

“Even an amateur can see that this happened incredibly fast. They broke in at high speed and left just as quickly after causing the damage. Plus, there was no one else present. That’s why I suspected you were the culprit and arrested you.”

“Hoho

It’s definitely the work of someone very skilled, but it’s not off the table for a human familiar with robotics to have done it.

I nodded my head as I rubbed my stomach. It seemed to have started growling again.

Samejima’s subordinate spoke up.

“The flower left in the victim’s stomach is a signature M.O. move1 similar to that of a serial killer! Only this time, it was an android!”

“Hey, we’re still in front of the ‘temporary suspect’, you know.”

“Ah! No- S- I deeply apologize…!”

“SERIAL KILLER!!!!”

And with just those words, my vision, which had been clouded by hunger, suddenly cleared up.

A serial killer…?!

Even back on my home planet, there were some aliens that had errors and distortions in their internal structures, which caused them to act strangely.

Those creatures wander the streets, throwing pieces of their own flesh in all directions as if breaking free from the cycle of life. They swallow passing aliens whole and shrink smaller and smaller until, finally, they shrivel up and disappear.

I knew that there were beings like that among humans too~!

“Serial killer!”

What were they thinking? What drove them to the breaking point and made them do such things? What would be left after all the killing and destruction? At the end of the reckless homicide, not like those from wars or invasions, what would remain...?!

“Serial killer~~~!!!”

I felt a tingle of excitement in my neurotransmitter receptors. I was so interested by the thought of it!

A serial killer on the loose. It was perfect research material. I wanted to sample their brain cells, even if it was just a piece! A living specimen.

“You seem like you’re getting pretty excited. You okay? If you would just calm down a little, we can let you go home for today…”

“I’ll help look too!”

“Look? For what?” Samejima tilted his head curiously.

“The serial killer! I’m going to help look for them! And then I’m gonna dissect them!”

I jumped up from my seat and ran to the reinforced glass window.

I turned to see Samejima and his subordinate giving me confused stares and then I gave them a smile and a wave.

“Dissect? …What are you doing, Yowa-san?”

“I have decided to make my exit over here!”

“Sure, but the exit is over that way!”

“Bye-bye!”

I opened the window and jumped out.

After floating down for what I felt like two stories, I brilliantly nailed the landing with a “schtaa”.

I looked up to see Samejima peeking out the window and whistling at me.

“Woahh! Yowa-san, are you a national athlete? That’s amazing. You’re so cool!” Samejima looked down at me and smiled calmly.

I think I immediately heard him tell his subordinate to keep an eye on me, but by then I was already running.

While rushing back home, I called Gii from the middle of the road.

My stomach played “Fate” again.

“Gii, do we have food at home~?!”

“All of a sudden? I just ate not too long ago.”

“I’m soooo hungry! If this hunger continues, I’ll starve to death~!”

“That’s not good. Okay, I’ll get it ready.”

“Heyyy by the way, can we do “that” tonight too?”

“... Sure.”

“Oh also, is Nari there~!?”

“You’ve sure got a lot on your plate. But yeah, Kinari is here.”

Yes, I found something I wanted to do!

I’m pretty sure that the guy who smelled like Space Polypeon Miso Butter Photon Gun Grill was the culprit.

  1. Also known as Modus Operandi, where an individual's habits and behavioral patterns are used to identify how they commit a crime. The subordinate mentions how the “culprit” leaves trials of evidence (flowers and heart-shaped hole) as its signature move, to let people know that it’s them who committed the crime.
